The Exchequer Gate, Lincoln
England

Exchequer Gate is one of three arched gateways leading to the cathedral precinct in Lincoln. It was built in the 14th century during the reign of Edward I.

As a place where church tenants came to pay their rent, the name is thought to derive from the chequered cloth that was used to help in the counting of monies.
