The Chishan Landscape Theme Trail was built utilizing the old pier of the light railway that once belonged to the Chishan Sugar Plant. The trail has two levels. The lower one is a bike path while the upper one is a wooden footpath. The trail is 536 meters long and visitors walking along it could enjoy the views of the Cishan River, Chiwei mountains, green banana plantations, and the Chishan streetscape.
In the aftermath of Typhoon Morakot that hit Taiwan in 2009, however, the Kaohsiung government discovered that the bridge piers were too dense, which caused driftwood to pile and obstruct the river flow. Due to safety concerns, the city government decided to scale down the pier under the pretext of preserving part of the piers built during the Japanese Occupation Period. The works are scheduled to be completed next year.
