Gigapixel view from the north summit of Grey Rocks (elev. 7,258') near Dunsmuir, California, the highest of the two prominent summits. It has a fantastic 360 degree view spanning from Mount Eddy & Mount Shasta to the north, the granite spires of Castle Crags, Lassen Peak & the hazy Central Valley to the south, the distant Yolla Bolla Wilderness, the Trinity Alps Wilderness to the southwest, & many countless other peaks within the Trinity Mountains. The south summit (elev. 7,174') is a short traverse away, yet not as easy an approach from this summit. Grey Rocks are comprised of metamorphic rock that appears dark red like peridotite on the southern exposed faces yet a lightish green/blue on the shady sides. The summit is not far from nearby roads, yet it is seldom climbed. The summit is a pain to reach due to vertical exposure to the north & a bushwhack nightmare of huckleberry oak on the south slopes, not to mention the many number of spires that almost seem like the true summit. Noble firs abound in the shaded elevations of the region.
