Kaohsiung Vision Museum
Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung Vision Museum (the former Kaohsiung Train Station) was constructed during the Japanese Occupation and operations began in 1941 (the 16th Year of Japanese Emperor Showa). The station building is of a so-called “Imperial Crown Style” in Japanese architecture, delivering a strong message of Japanese militarism. With a western foyer and a main hall, the structure of the building is a mixed Japanese-Western design of the “Versailles” and the Japanese “Nikkon Temple”.Driven by the Japanese “Southward March” policy, the station was given an important mission to stimulate the industrial and commercial development of Kaohsiung. Eventually it became the icon of the development era.For the co-construction project of the railway, MRT and high-speed rail system, this imperial crown style building witnessing the development of Kaohsiung was relocated to a vacant land nearby in 2002 (the 91st Year of the Republic of China) and converted into the “Kaohsiung Vision Museum”.It is an e-Museum that presents Kaohsiung of the past, the present and the future.Residents can enjoy a journey of the ancient station while getting insights on the City Government’s development blueprint through the digital displays.
