Lake Becking is one of the Pink Lakes 70kilometres west of Ouyen. The lakes get their pink colour from beta-carotene secreted by algae Dunaliella Salina. The intense heat of summer evaporates all or most water in the lakes leaving shimmering pink salt beds. During the early and late hours when the sun is low on the horizon the colours intensify to a striking dark pink.
