Security for the moving of the bascule was in the hands of Whangarei Cruising Club, who provided two boats to ensure no-one tried to move under the bascule while it wsa being jacked across the centre gap.
They also provided transport for me around the site while I was doing the panoramas, plus coffee and scones for which I was truly grateful....thanks guys!!!
Auckland is the commercial capital of New Zealand but anything to the North can be considered "Northland". Preferred destination for tourists and workers alike when surf, sand, diving and fishing is involved. It has a solid rural base of Dary, Beef and Sheep as well as horticulture and wineyards. Whangarei is the regional city on the way up to Cape Reinga at the northernmost tip of the island.
