Piazza del Santuario. The central piazza of the city of Pompeii, is where the city holds all of their festivals and celebrations. The Sanctuary, Santuario della Beata Vergine del Santo Rosario di Pompei, stands with its great bell tower as the main focal point of the piazza. This sanctuary was originally constructed from 1876 – 1901. Since then several additions have been made and it has survived WWII and the eruption of Vesuvius in 1944.
