“Same Old Paradise” by Alexis Smith
La Jolla
“Same Old Paradise” is a 22’ by 62’ mural painted by Alexis Smith in 1987 for the Brooklyn Museum. It was reinstalled in 2021 on the University of California San Diego campus in La Jolla, California, USA. It depicts a landscape of orange trees, and in the corner is a large snake that morphs into a road. The snake became the inspiration for the “Snake Path” which is another art piece in the Stuart Collection near the iconic, Geisel Library on the UC San Diego campus.
