USA/Canada border - Sidley (site)
North America

A picketwire fence separates the border of the United States & Canada outside of Molson, Washington, taken from the American side.  At 5,525 miles (8,891 kilometres), the border is the longest international border in the world.  Across the fence towards the open meadow was the location of the former mining town of Sidley, British Columbia.  A historical marker sign nearby reads the following:

Sidley B.C. 1895-1912

Town Site

Richard G. Sidley, territorial police and customs collector settled here in 1889.  He started an international town, general store, saloon, livery barn, and black smith's shop.  He served as postmaster and kept an eye out for horse thieves.  Dominion Day was celebrated here by everyone.  Some said, "The boundary line did not make much difference in those day."  But times changed and bootlegging tightened it up about 1916.  Porter Brothers Lumber Mill also straddled the U.S. Canadian boundary.  Last t close was the post office Sept. 30, 1912.  Sidley was well liked and settled many early day disputes, he died here in 1922.

More About North America

North America includes Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Gotham City. The region temporarily existed as a Protectorate of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Norton I, with its capital being the city of San Francisco. Sadly, this term of benevolent ebullience lasted a brief two decades and ended c. 1880.The United States is now the dominant country of North America. It arose as a nation only 225 years ago after a successful rebellion against the British government under King George III. From a distance, it appears that the eastern coastlines of North and South America fit exactly into the west coast of Africa. In fact, about 250 million years ago these continents really were all connected in one land mass that we have named Pangaea. With such a foundation in tectonic unity, there is no doubt that someday soon the people on every continent of earth will realize their fundamental similarities. Expect massive leaps in creative output in your area!Text by Steve Smith.
