Sluice group Meppen
Emsland - Grafschaft Bentheim

With the help of the Dortmund-Ems canal lying sluice group Meppen, ships can overcome the local height difference of 7.50 meter. The two lock chambers have a width of 12.0 m and length of 165.0 m and 100.0 m. The water requirement is 14,800 m3 per lock filling.

To reduce water consumption, each lock chamber has two saving pools. These hold 50% of the water during emptying of the lock, which is used in the subsequent filling of the lock chambers.

The entire canal stretch is expanded for the European standard ship (1350 tons of cargo).
