River to River to Other 川と河とカワ
自然が遠くなったと、ここ10年ほどの世界を振り返って感じている。ある山は放射能に汚染され、森はすぐそこに見えるけれど、目に見えないラインが引かれていた。
この前橋市のエリアには2つの川がある、川沿いを散歩する人々の流れを横に、川の流れを観察してみた。波打ち、落水し、川縁に当たって水が中央にもどり、石や草木を中心に渦巻き、様々な表情をみせている。しかし、私たちが見ている川の水は今見ていたポイントから数分後には下流へ移動しており、今見る水は違う水の一群である。永遠に動く水を捉えることができないことに気がつき、目の前にある水を動くまま捉えるための方法の一つとして、私は前橋市内にある「島田フルイ店」にて４点の篩を購入し、馬場川、広瀬川の４箇所にて川の水を掬うことにした。
篩にかけられた水は網目により分けられ、また元の一群と合流しどこかへと紛れていった。
私の体には、水の重さ、流れの動き、速度が体験されたことで、美しく見えていた川の景色や表象からの印象だけではない、同様に生かされている物体としての共感、差異、手応えを感じ取ったが、物体としての距離の遠さの果てしなさを感じ、私の意義は川の底に沈みこんだまま、まだ周囲に見えていないものの存在を確認するため、馬場川、広瀬川の水を、川縁からは遠い水面に届くよう、長いアクリルの管を使って這いつくばって少しだけ採取した。川の水にうごめくものたちが現れるを待つことにした。
アーティスト / キュレーター 三重県生まれ、中之条町在住。国内外のアーティスト・イン・レジデンスや芸術祭に参加し、移動と余白をテーマにアーティストとして活動する傍ら、地域と文化事業の関係性や成り立ち、運営目的についてリサーチをおこなっている。現在、中之条町アーティスト・イン・レジデンスにてディレクションを担当。
芸術文化のもつ「創造の力」は、現代社会が抱える課題に向き合い、新しい価値や魅力を生み出すためのエネルギーとして必要とされています。前橋市中心市街地においても、芸術文化施設「アーツ前橋」の開館を契機に設立されたアートギャラリーをはじめ、芸術・文化活動の拠点が点在しています。そのような拠点を中心に集まった市民により独自の活動が続けられ、前橋に新しい地域文化が生まれつつあります。市民の主体性を持続的に推進するために、私たちは、2015年10月、NPO法人マエバシ・アート・プラクティス（map：maebashi art practice）を設立しました。
前橋の街にある広瀬川や馬場川。私たちにうるおいと豊かな景観とともに多くのインスピレーションをもたらしてくれます。
「River to River 川のほとりのアートフェス」では、2つの川の流域にあるアートスペースや歴史的建造物などの拠点で展覧会と演劇公演を行います。
そこに流れ続ける川のように、本アートフェスを通して前橋の今と昔に出会いそれが未来へつながっていくことを願っています。

The eight islands of Japan sprang into existence through Divine Intervention.The first two gods who came into existence were Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto, the Exalted Male and Exalted Female. It was their job to make the land for people to live on.They went to the bridge between heaven and earth and, using a jewel-encrusted halberd, Izanagi and Izanami churned up the sea into a frothy foam.
