Успенский собор — один из старейших русских храмов, свидетель важнейших исторических событий, сохранивший фрески Андрея Рублёва.
Успенский собор представляет собой редчайшее сочетание архитектуры, настенных росписей, иконописи, декоративно-прикладного искусства XII — XIX веков.
Древнейший собор Владимира был построен в 1158 — 1160 годы князем Андреем Боголюбским. Успенский собор был долгое время главным храмом всей Русской Земли.
В 1408 году стены храма расписал великий иконописец Андрей Рублев (свыше 300 кв. м.) Созданная им композиция «Страшный суд» полна не ужасным предчувствием адских мук, а созерцательным покоем и пасхальной радостью грядущего Воскресения.
