Bab al-Yaman is the main gate of Sana's old fortified wall, and thus it is the place where old Sana'a meets modern Sana'a. To the north, a warren of suqs and walled gardens and ancient towers; to the south, a national capital, though one where old traditions invade all aspects of modernity.
