Apart from the Lighthouse and the fort, Cihoushan was also once a restricted area - this meant that few had ever seen these natural views of the strait.  Within the steep limestone of the cliffs is a military tunnel dug during the Japanese Occupation, connecting Cijin Beach to the Strait's coast.  Recently, Kaohsiung City Government has renovated the tunnel and renamed it "Cijin Tunnel of Stars", which now connects the Strait with the Cijin Seaside and the Cijin Ocean-view Bike Path.  The Strait has now become a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike.
