Frosty Afternoon at the Eagle River Nature Center
Alaska

This is my first gigapixel photo. It is 1.6 GP. If printed out at 300 dpi it would be about 15 feet wide and 7.5 feet tall (4.5m x2.25m). I left this photo a a little bit dark to demonstrate what it feels like in Alaska in the winter. It was 12 degrees below zero Fahrenheit (~24˚ C) and a clear and sunny day. The photo was taken in the middle of the day at 1400 hours. This time of the year the sun stays fairly low on the horizon and does not climb above the ridges when viewed from a valley. Notice the sun almost rising to the ridge. This is not a sunrise/sunset photo. The sun is at its full height and it will stay just below the peaks from this viewpoint. Notice the bright, sunny peaks that are not in the shadow.
