Hotel Ristorante Il Castello
Tuscany

Hotel Ristorante Il Castello, Certaldo, Italy

Il Castello is located right down the street from Italy Intensive’s studios and student apartments. We also eat some of our group dinners at the hotel’s restaurant. It is a great place, where many visitors stay.

The mission of the East Carolina University Italy Intensives Program is to enhance the internationalization of the undergraduate and graduate experience at East Carolina University, providing students with opportunities to engage in research and scholarship in an authentically Italian community, helping them become globally aware, socially conscious citizens, and future leaders who will make positive contributions in an increasingly interdependent and multicultural world.

East Carolina University's Italy study abroad program offers students year round opportunities to study and live in the heart of Tuscany while earning college credit.

Students can earn 3-6 credit hours during summer sessions and 12-15 credit hours during fall and spring semesters. Courses are offered in studio art, art history, Italian language, humanities, literature, International news, feature writing, music and theater classes.

More About Tuscany

The Tuscany, one of the most beautiful Italian regions, is known throughout the world for its Landscapes and for the Works of Art that it houses (It is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance). Six localities have been designated World Heritage Sites: the Historical Center of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Pienza, the Square of the Cathedral of Pisa with the Leaning Tower and the Val d'Orcia. It is in the central Italy and borders with Emilia Romagna (north), Marche and Umbria (east) and Lazio (South). The West coast is bathed from the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Sea; here we can find the islands of the Tuscan archipelago including the island of Elba. The regional capital is Florence and the other provinces are: Arezzo, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena.
