St Mary's Church in Katowice is one of the oldest churches in Katowice. It was built in the 60s of the 19th century in the neo-gothic style.
The street leading to the church is called Mariacka (St Mary's) Street and is one of the most representative streets in the city center of Katowice. It was marked out in the 70s of the 19th century and from 1876 to 1919 (and then during Nazi occupation) was named after Richard Holze, at that time the President of the City Coucil and also a well-respected doctor.
During the interwar period many exclusive hotels and restaurants were located here.
In 2008 the whole street was closed to vehicular traffic and converted into peaceful and representative boardwalk. According to the plans of the city government, Mariacka street should become a part of so called Little Marketplace, with a few surrounding streets like Mielęckiego St., Św. Jana St., Św. Stanisława St. or Dworcowa St.
