The Lunenburg Foundry was established 1891. The iron foundry building was the first building constructed on the factory premises well over a century ago. The modern company still operates in a different building adjacent to the old iron foundry. As a foundry located in a town so orientated around the marine industry, its primary production line was focused on marine equipment for fishing vessels. This building has seen the end of the age of sail and the rise of motorized ocean going vessels. Today, the company still uses similar techniques to those used years ago though the products that it produces now meet todays standards for durability and strength. The company is looking into the possibility of restoring this old iron foundry building so as to continue the tradition of a marine foundry in a seafaring town.
