The city is located 27 km to the south of the railway station on the line Nochka "Ruzaevka-Samara", 120 km north-east of Penza, River Vyrgan (pool Inza, Sura). Located in the eastern part of the Russian Plain. Climate - temperate continental with distinct seasons. Relatively mild winters (average temperature of -10 °). Summer is dry, with a predominance of heavy rainfall.The modern city has, dairy and bakery, timber plant, 5 secondary schools, vocational schools, 5 libraries, arts school, children's sports school, Folk Orchestra (founded in 1904), two health centers and a hospital. Lay the straight streets, modern buildings to preserve the continuity and is linked to the main enterprise of the city - the factory "Red Giant" with cascading ponds on the river. Vyrgan and the main street connecting the two historic city center.
