On the iceberg at Jökulsárlón at sun down
Iceland
I was looking for an interesting panoramic shot, something different. So at first I was going into the icey water to find a piece of ice to get in the foreground, but nothing really cut it. So my only real option was going out further into the dark water and I knew the clocking was ticking too. As I was going out with my gear, the water got deeper and colder. There were a lot of sounds from the cracking ice around and the glacier breaking away. After several attempts of going out deeper and deeper, I reached one bigger piece of, ice or iceberg. I thought I would put the tripod shoot a 360° on it. Then I started trying to climb on top of it. At first it seemed impossible as it was to high and everything was freezing cold and mostly slippery. I did managed to get up on it, and quite obviously the whole thing was started moving around, and moving away. The part that did get me worried is I could literally hear the ice melting away and crackling. On top of it, I told myself it is going to brake, crack or split in two. It looked so thin and unstable, which it was, and I would go completely under the water. But throughout this whole trip I had climbed and crossed many awkward situations. This one was no different and I will take full advantage of it; ok the water was much colder. But in no way I was going to miss this chance of taking a 360°. Anyways the way back was long and cold. Some days are just better than others.
