Gate of Paradise in Bali is one of the most symbolic and sacred places on the island. The Pura Lempuyang temple stands along the sides of the mountain of the same name, at about 1,100 m, in the easternmost part of Bali island. It is one of the oldest and most revered temples in Bali, so much so that it is considered Luhur which means "noble, glorious": only a few temples have this title and protects from evil spirits.
It is also called the temple of Ishvara, that is of Shiva as "Supreme Lord",
It is not known when it was built, perhaps in the tenth century AD.
Reaching the temple is very tiring, the trek includes 1700 steps set in the mountain. During our climb we were disturbed by cute gray macaques. The effort was compensated by the wonderful panorama, even if that day, the weather was not sunny. During the ascent, we participated in the ceremonies that were held in the small temples along the way, together with the many pilgrims. Mystical atmosphere.
