Sisak - remains of the old city walls
Croatia

What you see before you are the remains of defense walls of Siscia, capital of Roman province Pannonia Savia.

In 4th century BC the Celts arrive to this region. Celts are mixed with with Illyrian natives, and they establish a new settlement - Segestica.

In 35th BC, the young Octavian, who will later become the Roman emperor Octavian Augustus, after a month long siege with an army of 12000 men, conquers the Celtic-Illyrian city and establishes a Roman military camp - Siscia.

At the time of the Roman emperor Diocletian, the Roman province of Pannonia was divided into four regions, and Siscia becomes the capital of province Pannonia Savia.
