The Dormition Cathedral in the 18th-20th centuries was a cathedral temple of the Yaroslavl-Rostov bishopric. It was the first stone temple in Yaroslavl – it was built in 1215. The cathedral’s interior was painted in 1671-1674. The building was damaged during the 1918 revolt and in 1937 it was bombed.
The foundation of the new Dormition Cathedral took place here in 2004. This new Cathedral must be build to the Yaroslavl’s millennium in September 2010.
The sculpture “The Trinity” was created in 1995 by sculptors N. Muhin and I. Treivus. It was built in honor of the millennium of the establishment of Christianity in Russia. It is the only sculpture of The Trinity in Russia recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church.
