Het domein Gerhagen situeert zich in het gehucht Schoot-Tessenderlo. Schoot is één van de vijf gehuchten (kerkdorpen) van Tessenderlo. De gemeente Tessenderlo bevindt zich helemaal in het westen, in de neus van de provincie Limburg. Eigenlijk ligt Tessenderlo geborgen tussen de provincie Antwerpen in het noorden en de provincie Vlaams-Brabant in het zuiden. Tessenderlo heeft een oppervlakte van 51,4 km² en telt ongeveer 17.000 inwoners. Ten oosten van het centrum bevindt zich een grote industriezone en ten westen van de gemeente ligt er een “groene long” die een oppervlakte heeft van 945 hectare, zich verder uitstrekkend in de naburige gemeenten: Gerhagen.
