Alto Douro Wine Region, Ferradosa, Sao Joao da Pesqueira
Portugal

North bank of the Douro River, with exposure mostly to the South, is the first farm in the Douro Superior. This region, with great thermal amplitudes and very little rainfall, meets all the conditions for the production of grapes of excellent quality.

The first references of Quinta da Ferradosa date back to the late 19th century, when it belonged to the Borges family.

At the beginning of the 20th century, it was bought by Real Companhia Velha, the oldest Port Wine company.

The construction of the Valeira dam caused a rise in the water level of the Douro River, submerging a large area of vineyards at Quinta da Ferradosa, which affected its wine-growing potential and hampered its access.
