Arroteia Chapel is located in Chapel Square in the village of Arroteia, municipality of Pombal, district of Leiria, Portugal.
It is a small chapel built in honor of St. Benedict Núrsia who lived from 480 to 547 AD, and who was one of the monks who contributed to the organization of the Order of Benedictines, one of the largest monastic orders in the world. São Bento Núrsia is the patron saint of Arroteia.
St. Benedict Nursia is the patron of Arroteia, and the feast in his honor is held on the Sunday after 11 July. St. Benedict Nursia was appointed Patron of Europe by Pope Paul VI in 1964, he is also Patron of Germany. In addition, he was the founder of the Abbey of Monte de Cassino in Italy, near Naples.
