Below The Golden Words - Aqueduct of Nottolini in Lucca
Tuscany

Within the watercourse of the source Serra Vespaiata nicknamed "The golden words" for the brass covered words engraved in Latin on this bridge. In this photo of 2014, the phrase is almost indecipherable but now has been restored in all its golden luster. This source once powered the monumental aqueduct built between 1823 and 1851 by the royal architect Lorenzo Nottolini commissioned by the Duchess Maria Luisa of Bourbon to supply drinking water to the city of Lucca.
