Núcleo urbano sede municipal. Vila situada em planície na fronteira do Alentejo. Vila medieval de jurisdição de régia com castelo e cerca urbana. Praça de guerra seiscentista.
Campo Maior fica na fronteira com Espanha, a norte de Elvas. A influência da arquitectura da Estremadura espanhola é visível, mesmo que não entendamos quais os detalhes que a distinguem de Portalegre e Elvas. O tipo de varandas, e o sombreamento dos vãos do calor, são os detalhes que nos saltam primeiro à vista.

Extremadura (Estremaura in Extremadura and the fala). It is a Spanish autonomous community located in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It is composed of the two largest provinces in Spain: Cáceres yBadajoz.
