Cerovo Cave
Cerovo Cave is located in central Serbia, near famous Zlatibor Mountain. It was discovered in 2015, during an investigation on WWII war crimes, committed by the communists in this area. After an extensive search, ASAK Belgrade caving club finally found the entrance to the cave and explored its beautiful interior, full with calcite jewelry. After an investigation, cavers discovered a number of human remains and their personal belonging, which identified them as young, possibly teenage, Serbian Empire Scouts, belonging to the Chetnik movement and killed by Partisans in 1945. A further investigation is in progress and will give more data about this crime. Cerovo Cave is a fossil cave, with no active channels, but with lots of jewelry, very uncommon for this area. It is comprised of three big halls, connected via passages and vertical shafts. Another very uncommon feature is higher than normal temperature inside, rising up to 15 degrees Celsius, which is almost double the average for caves in Serbia.
