Elizebeth Street Mall
Hobart

Early morning at the Elizabeth Street Mall in Downtown Hobart, Tasmania: one of the most popular shopping areas in the city. It is host to both major department stores and smaller, locally owned establishments. Areas in the mall are available to community groups to stage individual events. Vehicle access is strictly controlled and drivers are issued mats to place under their vehicles in order to prevent damage to the clay pavers from oil leaks.

The clay paver arrangement was designed by Australian artist Paul Zika, Head of Painting at the University of Tasmania. Elizabeth Street is named after Elizabeth Macquarie who was the wife of Lachlan Macquarie, the Governor of New South Wales, Australia from 1810-1821.
