The Germiston road runs through a fertile valley between Stenness and Orphir. Being in a valley makes the land slightly warmer and the land very fertile with the good soil washed down from the hills. It is excelent farming country. At the south end of the road it passes the Loch of Kirbuster which supplies water to much of the west mainland.
