At this spot there was a copse of trees where Ned Kelly stopped. He was seriously wounded during the siege at Ann Jones Inn, but managed to leave the inn undetected to warn his cousin Tom Lloyd and the sympathizers to not join the battle. He stopped here to remove his helmet and padded skull cap. Tom returned here to retrieve the skull cap and rifle that Ned left behind, but found them caked in blood.
