The new Isala Hospital building located in Zwolle was designed from both a highly dedicated medical-technical and health stimulating human perspective. The 108.000 square metres are spatially divided into 4 buildings called butterflies, due to their plan shape, with lush Atrium gardens. The Isala hospital was designed by the collaborating a/d amstel and Alberts & Van Huut architects offices (AMI Associated Dutch Healthcare Architects) and their design team partners.
This is the Butterfly 2 half glazed atrium, clad in blue stained timber. Colours of windows vary per floor throughout the whole building. Windows are designed to gives views from the rooms down into the gardens as well as up into the skies. Planters have been incorporated in the elevation design.
