A 300' aerial view overlooking Johannesburg, California, a former mining community started around 1894 w/ gold discovered at nearby Yellow Aster Mine. The town as well as nearby Randsburg were named by miners who previously worked in the gold regions of South Africa. As of 2010 the population is at 176.
