Nevada Governors Spring cabin (ruins)
Nevada

A long abandoned cabin sits at Nevada Governors Spring in the Pancake Range north of Duckwater, Nevada.  It has signatures dating from back to the 1920s.  Perhaps one of the more interesting carvings on the wall was from a sheriff in 1932 located in the corner, to which I discerned as best as I could (including misspellings).  The following was inscribed:

Reward

$9 six bits will be paid for the return and hanging of Gilbert Vizina (Alias) Cherokee Dan, The Snake, and several other false names.  He has blue eyes, square chin buck teeth, and flat feet.  He is fond of pushing little chickens in the creek and laying in warm houses.  He may pose as a violinist, bootblack a street car, conductor or a gentleman.  He is wanted for 6,000 (or good?) major crimes including bigimy, arson, rape, second story work, train robbery ambush, a number other crimes too numerous to mention.  He is a menace to society and should be in out of the damp night air.  Sheriff of Red Springs.  November 26, 1932

A lookup of the name did reveal one link to a possible Gilbert Edward Vizina born on June 23, 1910 in either Humboldt County, Nevada or Ely, White Pine County, Nevada.  If this was indeed him, then information about him is ambiguous.  But from what I could find, he was a single man of Caucasian background & was in the semiskilled mining/mining-machine operator profession.  He was also enlisted in the army in Salt Lake City on August 13, 1942 with the military serial # 39830291 & serving 5 terms as a private.  Married a few times, his death was June 17, 1988 in Caliente, Lincoln County, Nevada.  I couldn't find anything relating to crime & it appeared he seemed to have evaded his crimes, so it could also be possible that the inscribed post on the wall could also be a 90 year old prank.
