PENA PALACE
Portugal
The Pena Palace is located at the top of the Serra de Sintra, about 500 meters of altitude, in Portugal, Europe. Inspired by the romantic castles of Bavaria, and a junction of various styles and influences, Gothic, Moorish, neo-Manueline and Arabs, was built in 1839 by D. Fernando of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, husband of Queen Maria II for summer residence. The Pena Palace is the most remarkable and beautiful monument of the Portuguese Romantic architecture. In 1995, UNESCO classified the Palace and the Parque da Pena, as components of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, as World Heritage.
