Plaza de armas in Piura's town center is one of the oldest spanish style plazas in Perú. It is surrounded by tamarind trees, which were planted over a century ago. The marble statue in the center is called “Pola” and represents liberty. It was erected in 1870 during the presidency of José Balta.
