Su Romanzesu 3, Bitti (NU) - Sardinia - ITALY
Sardinia

I spent a day exploring this pristine casket of natural treasures, cork oaks and granite outcrops in the heart of Sardinia, on the northern border of Barbagia. It holds a precious and fascinating legacy of the Nuragic civilization, a large residential and cultural complex. The village-sanctuary of Romanzesu is located on a plateau in the locality of Poddi Arvu, in the middle of a wood, near the source of the Tirso river. It is part of the territory of Bitti, from which it is 13 kilometers away and extends over seven hectares. All in granite, it includes about one hundred huts, many hidden by trees, and various religious buildings including a well temple, with stepped amphitheater, two megaron, one rectangular, one heeron and a mysterious labyrinth. The first news on the site dates back to 1919: the archaeologist Antonio Taramelli discovered it.
