Whale park in Akishima
Tama

This park is called as "Kujira park"; Kujira means "a whale" in Japanese. In 1961, fossils of a whale was found in the riverbed of the Tamagawa river around here.  Now, here is far from see (more than 30 km), but a million years ago, this place is under the sea.

In 1945, a tragic train accident happened on the railway bridge across the Tamagawa river.  Two trains had a head-on collision, and more than 100 people died.   The two wheels you can see are the monument of the accident.  On the board, the outline of the accident was written in Japanese.
