A 300' aerial view overlooking Winnemucca, Nevada. With a 2010 population of 7,396 citizens, it is the only incorporated town & county seat of Humboldt County. The town is named after Winnemucca (1820-1882), a Northern Paiute War chief who had a camp in the area. In 1868 the Central Pacific Railroad reached Winnemucca, being part of the transcontinental line. There were also Basque immigrants who worked as sheep herders in the area, as well as a former Chinatown home to 400 Chinese workers of the railroad. Here one can see downtown with Sonoma Peak behind, Interstate 80, & Highway 95 leaving town headed north.
