Hovering over fields near Ásólfsskáli. The lush green of Suðurland contrasts with the magnificent desolation of the central highlands! The farmhouses here are tucked right up against an escarpment to shelter from winter winds.
You can see Eyjafjallajökull, the ice cap on the volcano Eyjafjöll, peeping over the lip of the escarpment. Just up the road is the scenic waterfall Íráfoss, and you can just see the red and white of Ásólfsskálakirkja — a lovely small church.
