In 1998, when the previous floor of the Largo de São Paulo was dismantled, several Roman walls were identified. In the impossibility of carrying out an archaeological excavation in an area, the walls were designed and photographed by the Archeology Unit of the University of Minho, and it was decided that they would be marked on the current pavement.
The positioning of the walls in the fabric of the Roman city, allows to know that they were integrated in a residential block, and must be part of a domus (family house).
On January 27, 2017, the statue of D. Frei Bartolomeu dos Mártires, by the artist Hélder Carvalho, was inaugurated and is placed on a sturdy granite pedestal designed by the architect Gerardo Esteves.
