The beautiful Villa Reale in Monza, built by the will of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria between 1777 and 1780 as a summer residence for her son Ferdinand of Habsburg, governor general of the Austrian Lombardy. The Villa is located at the foot of the hills of Brianza, a place that was chosen not only for its beauty but also for its strategically important position across the Milan-Vienna route. The significant investment planned for its construction caused the country house, commissioned by the governor, to be changed into a full-fledged palace. After the Habsburgs, the Villa became a Royal Palace under the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy and kept this function under the Savoy, the last royal family to use it.
