Neskowin Ghost Forest - Leafil G. Alforque disappearance [1]
USA

The Neskowin Ghost Forest is located at the seashore in Neskowin, Oregon & consists of nearly 200 sitka spruce tree stumps exposed from winter Pacific storms around 1997-98 after being buried for nearly 2,000 years.  They are covered w/ barnacles & mussels, w/ most of them exposed during low tide & slowly degrading by the elements.  The forest is the result of a massive Cascadia-like earthquake around 0AD that caused the coastline to slump (liquifaction) into the ocean, taking the forest with it.  The trees were broken down by the waves while the stumps & roots were buried underneath by sand & remaining unknown until more recent times.  Similar events are likely to occur with the threat of another major earthquake to the region coming soon.  There are other known ghost forests along the Oregon Coast, though most of them remain underwater or under the beaches.  In the distance to the north one can see Proposal Rock, a prominent sea stack that is an island during high tide.  On December 3, 2008, Leafil G. Alforque, age 23, was with her boyfriend Scott Napper of whom she met on a dating website a few years earlier.  He was planning to propose to her at the base of the rock when sudden sneaker waves rushed up against her & carried her out to sea.  She was never seen again & it is presumed she drowned.

More About USA

The United States is one of the most diverse countries on earth, jam packed full of amazing sights from St. Patrick's cathedral in New York to Mount Hollywood California. The Northeast region is where it all started. Thirteen British colonies fought the American Revolution from here and won their independence in the first successful colonial rebellion in history. Take a look at these rolling hills carpeted with foliage along the Hudson river here, north of New York City. The American south is known for its polite people and slow pace of life. Probably they move slowly because it's so hot. Southerners tend not to trust people from "up north" because they talk too fast. Here's a cemetery in Georgia where you can find graves of soldiers from the Civil War.The West Coast is sort of like another country that exists to make the east coast jealous. California is full of nothing but grizzly old miners digging for gold, a few gangster rappers, and then actors. That is to say, the West Coast functions as the imagination of the US, like a weird little brother who teases everybody then gets famous for making freaky art.The central part of the country is flat farmland all the way over to the Rocky Mountains. Up in the northwest corner you can find creative people in places like Portland and Seattle, along with awesome snowboarding and good beer. Text by Steve Smith.
