A 400' aerial view overlooking Palisade Canyon south of Carlin, Nevada. A ghost town known as Palisade existed here, peaking at a population of 600 by the late 1870s. The Transcontinental Railroad as well as nearby mining camps kept the scene alive here. There was even an elaborate hoax made in the 1870s involving staging bank robberies & gunfights to boost tourism to the town. By 1910, the town was left in disrepair from a major flood & never regained it's former self. In 1932, the area around Palisade may have been used as an assassination attempt against President Herbert Hoover by a vagrant who planted 22 sticks of dynamite along the railroad as the President was passing through. Such a find was never encountered though. By 2005 the entire town site was sold to an unidentified bidder from Atlanta businessman John Sexton for $150,000.
