Stalis or Stalida is located 34 km east from Heraklion, 3 kilometers from Hersonissos and 3 kilometers before Malia. The intense development of tourism in the region resulted in these three cities (Hersonissos, Stalis and Malia) to join almost a coastline of about 10 kilometers, full of hotels and apartments. Especially if you follow the coastal road from Stalis to Malia, it is impossible to distinguish that stops each settlement and the other begins.

In the decade 1980-1990 the tourism in Crete had rapid growth. Aftiitan season developed and Stalis and became a popular holiday destination in eastern Crete. Until then it was just the beach who spent their summer holidays Mohos the inhabitants of the village located on the mountain which rises south of Stalis.
