Along the edges of the Great Salt Lake in Utah, mineral extraction companies capture water from the lake in large solar evaporation ponds. On a calm day, the shallow ponds mirror the surrounding land and sky. Stansbury Island to the north appears to float in the air. Also visible are portions of Antelope Island and the Wasatch Front to the east, the Oquirrhs to the southeast, the Stansbury Mountains to the southwest, and the Cedar and Lakeside ranges to the west.
