The Nautilus (Lower End)
Utah
The Nautilus is a sandstone formation created by water erosion as it floods and cuts through the desert sandstone. As the water cut down it eroded farther and farther under one side of the channel and undercut the upper layer of the small slot. That left a thin, overhanging curved piece of sandstone suspended over the stream bed. Apparently, in years past, the overhang was much more prominent but a portion of it has since fallen into the channel.
