The year 1969 is the moment when the location of the new Targu-Mures Airport was inaugurated, equipped with concrete runway and modern aviation techniques. New type of aircrafts started to operate such as: AN 24 and ATR 42 connecting Targu-Mures with Bucharest, Constanta, Cluj-Napoca and Budapest. From 1968 till today the airport supported important changes and improvements. Due to the active involvement of the airport leadership as well as having the support of Mures County Council in the days there are lot of modernizing works having as main purpose transformation of the unit in a strategic point for the country’s Central Zone economy.
Marosvásárhely / Târgu Mureş lies at the junction of three geographical regions (Mezőség / Câmpia Transilvaniei, Maros Valley and Nyárádmente) at about 220 meters above sea level. The city extends onto both banks of the Maros / Mures river, however, the downtown area and the greater part of the districts are located on the left bank.
