Castelo de Vide, situado na encosta dum monte da Serra de Portalegre, por natureza da sua acidentada topografia oferece-nos composições espaciais ricas em contrastes. O largo da Fonte da Vila é a peça notável resultante dum subtil jogo de volumes e espaços. O alpendre que a cobre, sustentado por esbeltas colunas, determina uma forma que se projecta em superfiicies definidoras de volumes macissos, só vivificadas por aberturas de janelas distribuídas segundo muito boa composição.
É uma fortificação de grande extensão e globalmente bem conservada, ao ponto de vista estrutural, cujo traçado resulta do encontro do aglomerado urbano com o relevo constituido pelos contrafortes da serra de São Mamede constitui um percurso priveligiado de leitura do território.
